Latest Updates from Our Project:

We're down to the last week!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Aug 12, 2020 at 05:50:39 AM

We're down to the final week and it is time for a last push!

As of this update we're $885 from being funded for all of 2021. Once we hit that goal, we have our eyes on the grand prize: two incredible special issues of Apex Magazine.

STRETCH

  • $26,250: A Special Indigenous & Native Fantasists issue
  • $30,000: A Special International Fantasists in focus issue

I hope to announce who will edit our Indigenous & Native Fantasists issues tomorrow.

UPDATED REWARDS

We've added a new backer reward that might interest the nonfiction writers out there. Editor Shana DuBois is offering three critiques of up to 7,500 words at the $75 level for essays and other nonfiction content.

For the writers, editors Jason Sizemore and Lesley Conner are offering 5 additional story critiques.

Maurice Broaddus is offering several more bundles of his signed books.

We're working on a handful of new rewards to help us reach our stretch goals. Announcements forthcoming.

Editors Q&A

Thank you to the many people who watched our Apex Magazine Editors Livestream Q&A. It is available for viewing at the Apex Magazine YouTube page. Here's a direct link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOoYzqcy4MM

THANK YOU

We know there is a lot going on in the world right now.

Keep fighting.

Be safe.

Remain vigilant.

Hard at work making Apex Magazine bookmarks
over 3 years ago – Wed, Aug 05, 2020 at 08:50:19 PM

Lesley Conner is an outstanding managing editor, a top-notch Girl Scout leader, and a certified Queen of the Crafts. Here is a photo of her workspace as she makes the Kickstarter exclusive bookmark ribbons. Alien heads, spaceships, and planets all over the place!

Knowing Lesley that is probably a mug of hot tea.

Many of our reward levels include a pile of Apex Magazine swag, including the bookmarks (and stickers and the alien head pin). You can also add them as an add-on for $5 each (and $1 for shipping).

We're closing on unlocking our next milestone reward! Let's keep the momentum rolling!

LIVE Q&A WITH THE EDITORS

The Apex Magazine editorial team (Jason, Lesley, Maurice, and Shana) are participating in a live Q&A hosted on YouTube this Sunday at 8pm EST.

Event page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-54h2o2g388

Would you like to ask the editors a question about the zine or the Kickstarter? Email Jason Sizemore ([email protected]) your question along with your name and we will try to answer it during the event. Questions will also be taken from the live chat stream.

Andrea Johnson (Little Red Reviewer) will be our moderator. She will ask the questions and lead the discussion.

APEX MAGAZINE NEWSLETTER

We're separating the Apex Books and Apex Magazine newsletter. If you only want to receive twice monthly updates about the zine then fill out this form and you're set.

MILESTONES AND STRETCH GOALS

We're sitting at $19.678 as of this update. Only $322 more before ALL backers receive issue 120 of Apex Magazine!

At $21,000 editor-in-chief Jason Sizemore will pen an essay about the importance of the slush pile and how to be a great slush reader.

At $22,500 a whole year of Apex Magazine is in the bag. Amazing!

We hope to see you Sunday night!
